Pain & The Brain
Our brain interprets pain based on our past experiences, our perception of our environment, and how our nervous system is navigating the present moment.
The brain is also not the only place in our body that interprets pain signals and sends the right information to the right place. Learning about how pain works in your body can help you navigate the tools you use and how you utilize them.
The Mental Game
I‘m going to be honest, the pain is less about the physical body and much more about the mental fortitude you’ve developed. It’s about understanding not only what you’re (very likely) going to experience but also about knowing yourself and how you tend to navigate the hardest and most challenging of moments.
It’s about knowing yourself.
Pain as Power
Once you know yourself and how you need to navigate pain, you need to also learn how to transform the intensity that you’re feeling into the power to push. Whether you feel the fetal ejection response and your body starts pushing for you, or you are pushing with great effort, knowing how to use the intensity of your contractions to power your pushing (both the physicality of it and the mental aspect) can change the whole experience for you.
Build Your Toolkit
So you know the stuff. You understand how pain works in your body. You know yourself pretty well. And you get that your pain can be your power… but how do you put this into practice to utilize during labor and birth?
These practices can help you hone in on the skills and deep self-awareness that you need to navigate even the most intense aspects of labor.
